CF Benidorm have returned to the top of the Lliga Comunitat Grup Sud following another eventful weekend of football, with Jávea dropping points and CD Olímpic maintaining their unbeaten record.
Sergio Mora's side began the weekend one point behind league leaders CDF Jávea, but Saturday's 4-2 victory away to Benigànim CF took Benidorm back into first place with 20 points from eight matches.
Jávea had the opportunity to regain top spot when they hosted CF Independiente Alicante on Sunday, but a 2-2 draw left them on 19 points from nine matches.
The results mean Benidorm finish Matchday 9 a point clear of Jávea, having played one game fewer.
However, the title race remains extremely competitive, with just three points separating the top four clubs.
Benidorm regain the lead
Benidorm's victory over Benigànim proved crucial to their position at the top of the table.
Santos opened the scoring in the 27th minute before Ramón González equalised for the hosts shortly before half-time.
Álvaro Lopez restored Benidorm's lead early in the second half, but Borislav Borisov brought Benigànim level again in the 58th minute.
The visitors eventually secured victory with two late goals. Captain Pato made it 3-2 in the 86th minute before substitute Marcos Guillén sealed the result in stoppage time.
It was Benidorm's sixth league victory of the campaign, extending their unbeaten start to eight matches.
Attention then turned to Jávea's meeting with Independiente Alicante on Sunday.
Jávea had moved above Benidorm the previous weekend following their 2-0 victory over Benigànim, but this time they were unable to collect all three points.
Their 2-2 draw against Alicante means Benidorm have gained two points on Jávea over the weekend, reversing the positions of the two clubs at the top.
Olímpic remain firmly in contention
While Jávea dropped points, CD Olímpic strengthened their position among the leading contenders with an impressive 2-1 victory away to UD Alzira.
Olímpic now occupy third place with 18 points from eight matches, just two behind Benidorm and one behind Jávea.
Like Benidorm, Olímpic remain unbeaten this season, having recorded five victories and three draws.
Their defensive record is particularly impressive. They have conceded just five goals in eight matches, the best record in the division, while scoring 17.
Benidorm and Olímpic have now both played eight matches and remain the only unbeaten teams in the Grup Sud.
Their postponed meeting at the Estadio Municipal Guillermo Amor is scheduled for Wednesday 2 December, with kick-off at 20:00.
The match could prove particularly significant if both clubs maintain their impressive form in the coming weeks.
Alberic win as Alzira and Thader drop points
CE Alberic also remain firmly in contention following a 2-1 away victory over Santa Pola CF.
Alberic move to fourth position with 17 points from nine matches, three behind Benidorm, although they have played one game more.
UD Alzira's defeat against Olímpic leaves them fifth with 16 points from eight matches.
CD Thader are level on points with Alzira following their 1-1 home draw against Novelda Unión, although they have played nine matches.
FB Redován were involved in the highest-scoring contest of the weekend, defeating UD Rayo Ibense 4-3 to move onto 15 points in seventh position.
Elsewhere, CF Gandia recorded a 2-0 away victory over Tavernes de la Valldigna, while CFUD Calpe secured an important 3-0 home win against CD Almoradí.
Those results leave Gandia eighth on 11 points and Calpe tenth on 10.

A closely contested title race
With the weekend's Matchday 9 fixtures concluded, the battle for promotion remains wide open.
Benidorm have reclaimed first place, but the margins between the leading clubs remain extremely narrow.
Jávea sit just one point behind, although they have played an additional match, while Olímpic remain only two points off the summit with the same number of games played as Benidorm.
Alberic are also within striking distance, with the top four separated by just three points.
The varying number of matches played adds another dimension to the standings, with several clubs still having postponed fixtures to complete.
At the other end of the table, Santa Pola and Almoradí remain level on five points, with Tavernes immediately above them on six.
For Benidorm, there are plenty of reasons for encouragement.
Sergio Mora's side have won six of their opening eight matches, remain unbeaten and have recovered the league leadership after losing top spot to Jávea the previous weekend.
With Olímpic also unbeaten and several clubs competing closely behind them, however, consistency will be essential.
For now, CF Benidorm are back where they want to be: top of the Lliga Comunitat Grup Sud.
