CF Benidorm will put their unbeaten start to the season on the line when they travel to CE Alberic Sucemart on Saturday evening, with kick-off scheduled for 6.15pm at the Estadio Municipal Manolo Sanchis.
Sergio Mora’s side lead the Lliga Comunitat Group South with 16 points from six matches, having recorded five victories and one draw. However, Saturday’s opponents are just three points behind in fifth place and will present another serious challenge to Benidorm’s promotion ambitions.
Benidorm looking to extend unbeaten run
Benidorm’s last league outing was the impressive 4-2 victory away to Novelda Unión on 10 October, when Ángel Cobo scored twice to help secure all three points despite the visitors being reduced to ten men.
Last Sunday’s scheduled home fixture against CD Olímpic was postponed following the severe weather alert across the Valencian Community, meaning Benidorm have had a two-week break between competitive matches.
Their away form has been particularly impressive, with victories at CFI Alicante (2-1), Rayo Ibense (2-1) and Novelda (4-2).
Those three matches have produced eight goals for Benidorm, although four of the five goals they have conceded this season have also come away from home.
Alberic return to winning ways
Alberic come into Saturday’s encounter having recorded a convincing 4-0 victory away to Benigànim last weekend.
An own goal gave them the lead before David Martínez doubled their advantage in the 38th minute. Late goals from Nicolás Cabanes and Carles Asunción completed the scoring.
The result ended a run of two consecutive defeats against Novelda Unión (1-3) and CD Olímpic (0-2), restoring confidence ahead of the visit of the league leaders.
Under coach Manuel Esteban Roch, Alberic have recorded four victories, one draw and two defeats from their opening seven matches, scoring 12 goals and conceding eight.
Their home results have included narrow 1-0 victories over CFI Alicante and Rayo Ibense, although Novelda demonstrated that they can be beaten on their own ground with a 3-1 victory earlier this month.
A physical battle awaits
Benidorm should be prepared for a demanding encounter against an Alberic side known for their physical approach.
One concern for the visitors is that some of the attacking situations Alberic have exploited this season appear similar to those that have caused Benidorm problems defensively.
That makes defensive organisation particularly important, especially when dealing with deliveries into dangerous areas, second balls and transitions.
Discipline will also be essential.
Benidorm have already experienced problems with red cards this season, with three dismissals recorded across their opening six league fixtures. The most recent came against Novelda, when Bipeba was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 66th minute.
Although Benidorm recovered to win that match, repeatedly finding themselves at a numerical disadvantage is something they cannot afford to become accustomed to.
Against opponents who are likely to compete fiercely for every ball, Mora’s players will need to match Alberic’s intensity while remaining composed and avoiding unnecessary confrontations.
Alberic players to watch
Alberic’s leading scorer is Roberto Fernández Garrido, who has registered four league goals this season. Kevin Dasi Daza has contributed three, making the pair responsible for seven of their team’s 12 goals.
Another player Benidorm will need to monitor closely is David Martínez Martorell, Alberic’s No. 8.
The 22-year-old midfielder is capable of operating centrally or in wider positions and was among the goalscorers in last weekend’s victory over Benigànim.
However, his attacking ability is not the only reason Benidorm will need to keep a close eye on him. He is a player who can test opponents’ concentration and composure, making it particularly important that Mora’s side remain disciplined and avoid being drawn into unnecessary confrontations.
For the visitors, Álvaro López leads the scoring charts with three goals, while Ángel Cobo’s double at Novelda demonstrated the threat he can provide in front of goal.
Previous meetings
The two sides shared the honours in their league meetings last season.
Benidorm recorded a 3-1 home victory over Alberic in December 2025, but Alberic gained revenge with a 1-0 victory on their own ground in April.
That defeat serves as a reminder that the Municipal Manolo Sanchis is not an easy place to visit.
Another important test for the leaders
Saturday’s encounter will be played on an artificial surface, providing another consideration for Benidorm as they look to maintain their excellent start.
Victory would take Mora’s side to 19 points and move them six points clear of Alberic, despite having played one match fewer.
With several teams competing towards the top of the table, every result matters, particularly against opponents with ambitions of challenging for the leading positions themselves.
Benidorm have demonstrated their ability to win difficult matches already this season, but they will need to combine their attacking quality with defensive concentration and discipline if they are to maintain their unbeaten record.
